As the 2024 season draws nearer, it is time to introduce members of Auburn’s roster.
After beginning this year’s series with cornerback Keionte Scott, let’s shift to another position in Auburn’s secondary with safety Jerrin Thompson. Thompson joins Auburn’s roster after spending the last four seasons at Texas, where he participated in over 2,000 snaps across 49 games.
Adding an experienced safety such as Thompson is vital to Auburn’s defensive success as both 2023 starters, Jaylin Simpson and Zion Puckett, have departed for the NFL. Thompson’s experience will mesh well with Keionte Scott, who returns to occupy the cornerback position which is also dry after the departures of DJ James and Nehemiah Pritchett.
Thompson’s final season in Austin was successful and instrumental to Texas’ College Football Playoff berth. He concluded the season with 38 total tackles, making at least one stop in all 14 games he played and reaching a season-high of five tackles twice. He also recorded three interceptions, including a pick-six in the Longhorns’ win over Wyoming. He made three stops in Texas’ CFP semi-final loss to Washington.
