I may have tight end AJ Barner a little higher than most, but I will admit this player is one I am deeply fascinated with. Barner is largely seen as a blocking tight end, and while there is nothing “sexy” about a blocking tight end, they are deeply neessary. Still, I have a feeling there’s more to Barner than meets the eye. The Michigan Wolverines last year were a run first, run second, and run third style of offense. There weren’t a ton of opportunities for Barner to shine in the passing attack. There are those who feel he has untapped potential as a receiving threat.
As someone who lamented the underutilization of Noah Fant and other tight ends under Shane Waldron, I am excited to if Ryan Grubb can unluck said potential.
