EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after helping lead the Spartans to a 27-24 last-second win at Maryland.

Marsh caught eight passes for 194 yards – the 10th-highest single-game total in Spartan history – in the victory over Terrapins. It also marked the second-most receiving yards in a game by a Spartan freshman.

With MSU trailing 24-17 with 4:22 left in the fourth quarter, sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles connected with Marsh on a 77-yard touchdown pass that tied the game. It was MSU’s longest TD reception since Jayden Reed had an 85-yard touchdown catch vs. Youngstown State on Sept. 11, 2021.

In the fourth quarter alone, Marsh had four receptions for 151 yards. In addition to the 77-yard TD, Marsh had a 57-yard catch earlier in the quarter, and receptions for 11 and 6 yards on MSU’s game-winning drive that culminated with Jonathan Kim’s 37-yard field goal with one-second remaining that put MSU on top, 27-24.

Marsh was also named the 247Sports True Freshman of the Week for his performance at Maryland. He currently ranks third in the Big Ten with 102.5 receiving yards per game (nine catches for 205 yards).

Michigan State (2-0, 1-0 Big Ten) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 14 against Prairie View A&M (1-1) at 3:30 p.m. in Spartan Stadium. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network and streamed on the FOX Sports app.
