Here’s how Penn State’s defense matches up against UCLA’s offense

Coming out of their primetime victory this past Saturday, Penn State has no time to bask in the glory of remaining undefeated. They have a classic sandwich game against UCLA that will be aired in the Fox Big Noon Kickoff slot before heading out West to face USC the following weekend in another massive showdown that will be aired on a legacy network.

The Nittany Lions enter Saturday’s game facing a situation they should win, but there are no givens in college that was evident this past weekend. So, Penn State will have to continue showing up and putting together elite performances that have earned them the respect they currently have across national polls.

What would go a long way to make sure that happens is their defense putting together another dominant showing.

There are some questions if UCLA’s starting quarterback Ethan Garbers will be healthy and available for this contest after he left the Oregon game this past Saturday with an injury. Garbers says he’ll be out there, but head coach Deshuan Foster isn’t sure if he’ll be ready to go. That will continue to be something to monitor throughout the week as their 89th-ranked passing attack averaging 205.0 yards per game could be severely impacted.

The Bruins will need all the help they can get when coming to Happy Valley. Penn State has overcome some concerning moments during certain spots in their past games and sit with the 14th-best defense when it comes to defending the pass. They have only allowed 154.5 passing yards per game, stifling opponents and making it hard for them to move the ball.
