CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference will continue to make history again this Saturday, October 5, as Stanford and California will host their first-ever ACC home football games as the ACC takes over the Bay Area.
SMU, Cal and Stanford were admitted as ACC members on September 1, 2023. SMU officially joined the ACC on July 1, 2024, while Cal and Stanford became full-time members on August 2, 2024.
Last week, SMU hosted Florida State for the school’s first-ever ACC football at Gerald Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas, picking up a 42-16 win over the Seminoles on Saturday, September 28.
Stanford will kick off first with a 3:30 p.m. ET start time versus Virginia Tech. The two teams have met just once, as the Cardinal defeated the Hokies 40-12 in the 2011 Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The Cardinal, whose first football season was in 1891, was a member of the Pac-12 Conference from 1919 to 2024, going through five renditions – Pacific Coast Conference (1919-58), Athletic Association of Western Universities (1959-67), Pacific-8 Conference (1968-77), Pacific-10 Conference (1978-2010) and the Pac-12 Conference (2011-23).
Heading into their first home ACC contest, Stanford is 2-2 on the year, including a 41-7 home win over Cal Poly back on September 7. The Cardinal are 1-1 in the ACC heading into Saturday, splitting its two ACC road contests with a 26-24 win at Syracuse (September 20) and a 40-14 loss at No. 17 Clemson (September 28).
