It’s been a busy week for the DC Defenders. Amidst 15 re-signings, the Defenders have also brought back safety Montae Nicholson, as they look to rebuild and refine Gregg Williams’ defensive unit.

Montae Nicholson has been a part of the Defenders’ secondary unit for the last two seasons. He joined DC ahead of the XFL’s inaugural campaign, where the Defenders made a Championship run. That year he totaled six tackles, playing in just five games.
Nicholson returned to DC for the UFL’s season this year, once again not seeing much action early on. However, he ended up playing in week six and seven – impressing enough to earn a starting role in the final three games.
In the final two outings, Montae had absolutely tremendous grades, according to PFF. He had 22 tackles this season, alongside two interceptions which both came across the final two weeks of action.

With DC’s defensive struggles in 2024, Montae Nicholson was someone who stepped up in a legitimate way the final few games of the year. He’s got NFL experience, with 126 tackles and three interceptions with the Washington Commanders.

General Manager Von Hutchins has been very active this week, bringing back players that served in key roles for DC this past year. That said, considering their 4-6 record in 2024, expect there to be some serious changes in specific position groups.
