Nico Collins is back at practice for the Houston Texans. That doesn’t mean he’s back to full speed.
Collins, who was activated off the injured reserve Saturday after missing the past four games, will not play in Sunday’s primetime game against the Detroit Lions at NRG Stadium. With a strong week of practice, there’s an expectation he’ll be cleared to return next week on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys.
The fourth-year pass-catcher returned to practice for the first time in nearly a month after being designated to return from the injured reserve on Friday. For precautionary purposes, the team listed as questionable on the final injury.
Before Collins’ hamstring injury, he led the league with 567 receiving yards. He also ranked third in catches with 32 and led the Texans with three touchdowns.
New Lions defensive end Za’Darius Smith will also be inactive for Sunday’s showdown in a potential Super Bowl preview. The recently-acquired pass-rusher was expected to be on a bye this week as a member of the Cleveland Browns before he was traded before the 3 p.m. deadline on Tuesday afternoon.
Lions offensive tackle Taylor and Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. both will not play on Sunday night as Houston debuts its new “Battle Red” uniforms.
