Everything old is new again with Steelers quarterbacks

Should Fields or Wilson be traded by November 5th deadline?

The top priority for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the last offseason was to upgrade the quarterback position. The Steelers cut ties with Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph and replaced them with Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen.

This, along with the addition of new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith was going to pull the Steelers offense from the bottom of the league. Did it work?

The short answer is no. In 2023, the Steelers were No. 28 in scoring and No. 25 in yards. In 2024, the Steelers improved to No. 16 in scoring and No. 23 in yards. Technically speaking this is better but the numbers that really matter are what stands out.

Last season, the combination of Pickett, Trubisky and Rudolph went 10-7 during the regular season and got blown out in the first round of the playoffs. This season the combination of Wilson and Fields went 10-7 in the regular season and got blown out in the first round of the playoffs.
