With the 2024-25 college football season having just one final game left, the College Football Playoff National Championship between Notre Dame and Ohio State, it is a good time to look back and reflect on the year that was.
The year saw the Iowa Hawkeyes rattle off an 8-4 regular season on the way to a berth in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl. Iowa met the Tigers in Nashville in a game that they likely wish that they had back.
The Hawkeyes squandered a 10-point second-half lead to fall to 8-5 on the year and end the season with a bit of a sour taste in their mouth.
Although it didn’t break Iowa’s way, the game was exciting and landed in the upper half of CBS Sports’ bowl game rankings.

Missouri 27, Iowa 24: Trailing by 10 points midway through the second half, the Tigers scored the game’s final 13 points, highlighted by a 56-yard go-ahead field goal from Blake Craig with 4:36 to play. Quarterback Brady Cook managed 341 yards of total offense and a pair of TDs in his final game. Iowa came out strong in this game with an offense and special teams that were trading points with Missouri making for a first half full of fireworks.
Unfortunately, Iowa’s defense wilted in the second half and crumbled down the stretch allowing Missouri to come back and steal this game late.
As Iowa turns the page to 2025, this bowl game is one that while fun to watch, is likely already flushed from the Iowa film room and minds of the team.
