‘Great’ to see Von Miller attending Bills voluntary workouts

A future Hall of Famer and Super Bowl MVP doesn’t need an early offseason refresher on how to prepare for an upcoming NFL season.

That doesn’t matter to Buffalo Bills pass rusher Von Miller.

After signing his six-year deal with the team this offseason, Miller made sure to show up to the Bills’ first voluntary workouts of the spring this week. It was a sight that was very welcomed by Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott.

“Well first, I think it’s great that he’s here,” McDermott said via video conference.

Despite all those lofty expectations that arrived in Orchard Park with him, Miller isn’t coming in guns blazing at all. He’s just trying to get comfortable right now the coach said.

“He’s just kind of trying to get himself acquainted with his new teammates, the new surroundings, where the weight room is. It’s kind of like the first day of school for a guy who hasn’t been in our building,” McDermott said. “Now it’s–he’s got the uniform on, the day-to-day uniform. He’s figuring this facility out, he’s going through meetings, he’s trying to get antiquated with the defense. Much like the rest of his team, that’s what he’s doing. I think that leadership piece will come out over time.”

Miller sincerely took that first day of school vibe to heart. He’s self aware of what his name means to those around him, but Miller revealed what his first words were to his teammates.

“I stood up and told them, ‘I’m Von Miller from Texas A&M, and I play defense,’” he said via video conference.

Pretty standard for anyone… except someone of Miller’s stature–but that shows the makings of a selfless teammate which was probably appreciated in the Bills locker room.

Miller went on to explain that feeling is reflected right back, he really likes the roster Buffalo has built. He can already tell.
