WR Ricky Pearsall transfer portal target to visit

Jacob Rudner of Swamp247 reported Saturday that former Arizona State wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is set to visit Florida and head coach Billy Napier next Friday after he entered the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday. The Gators are looking for more playmakers at receiver this offseason as the current depth chart lacks that kind of production.

Before entering the portal, Pearsall was expected to be a priority target for the Sun Devils’ offense next season. He led the team in all three major receiving categories with 48 catches, 580 receiving yards and four touchdowns last season.

Pearsall was a three-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting cycle. The 247Sports composite rankings considered him the 1,275 best player overall and the 151st best at his position.

Napier wasn’t shy about the importance of using the transfer portal this offseason throughout spring football.

“I think even hopefully five years from now I’m probably going to say the same thing,” Napier said Tuesday during his stop in Tampa, Florida on his spring speaking tour. “We need more players. I think every football team at this point of the year is very much a work in progress. Each team across the country has a set of problems. I think our big deal is we need to focus on the strengths we do have and come up with solutions for the issues.”
