It maybe wasn’t what everyone had initially expected, but the Cincinnati Bengals assembled a solid-looking 2022 NFL draft class, something which most experts in charge of NFL draft grades seem to concur.
Despite picking from a position of luxury, those Bengals actually got more aggressive than usual, trading up not once — but twice — to guarantee the roster prospects they really liked.
As such, they only picked six times, focusing all but one pick on the defensive side of the ball in the process.

Luke Easterling at Draft Wire hit the Bengals with a solid B, writing notably about the defensive picks:
“After loading up on the offensive line in free agency, the Bengals did the same for their secondary with this draft class. DB Daxton Hill is a versatile, instinctive athlete who can play safety or line up in the slot, while CB Cam Taylor-Britt is a tough, physical cover man. DL Zachary Carter went earlier than expected, but has some intriguing versatility.”

Doug Farrar and Mark Schofield of Touchdown Wire gave the Bengals a B+, throwing out a fun “matchup erasers” concept while talking about the defenders selected:
“The idea? Matchup erasers in the back end, with versatility at all three levels of the defense. In the AFC Championship game, we saw a lot of drop-eight coverage from the Bengals, and you need versatility in the secondary — coupled with pass rushers that can give you pressure with just three — to make that work.”
