NFL draft grades for former Michigan safety Daxton Hill

The second Wolverine to come off the board during the 2022 NFL draft was former Michigan safety Daxton Hill. The Cincinnati Bengals selected Hill with the 31st pick of the first round.

Hill was being mocked as a late first-round pick or an early second-round pick, but one thing that everyone thought — Hill is a versatile piece that can be moved around. Hill played safety at Michigan, but he also played some nickel back, and he became a freak off the outside getting to the quarterback or stopping the run.

A popular team that the experts had Hill going to was the Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills, but the AFC champions really wanted the swiss army knife out of Michigan.

There are plenty of draft grades out there for the Bengals, and for the selection of Dax Hill. Here are some different grades we could find talking about the Bengals selecting the Michigan product.

Mel Kiper Jr. with ESPN.com gave the Bengals a B for the draft, but he loved the Daxton Hill pick.

The Super Bowl runners-up didn’t have many picks, but they made their first two count on my board. Daxton Hill has excellent upside as a defensive back who can play as a slot corner and a deep safety and can even get some snaps outside. I thought he’d go about 10 picks higher than he did, so I love this one, especially with the Bengals having some turnover at corner. Hill also could be a potential replacement for Jessie Bates III, if the team and player can’t come to an agreement on a new contract.

PFF.com is giving the Bengals a B+ for the draft, and PFF liked the Hill pick.

Day 1: Hill brings athleticism, solid collegiate production and versatility to the table.
