Xavier Dampeer will join the USFL’s Maulers

On Friday, the USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers announced the additions of four players to their roster via the team’s Twitter. One of the players that were added to the roster was former Auburn offensive lineman Xavier Dampeer.

The Mississippi native actually joined the Tigers program after spending some time at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Mississippi.

After being listed as the No. 1 rated center by 247Sports Recruiting Rankings, Dampeer chose to play for Auburn. He chose the Tigers over several other programs such as Louisiana Tech, UAB, Troy, and Southern Illinois.

Upon joining the team, he played primarily as a backup center in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, Dampeer would start at center in the first four games prior to an injury.

Through the three seasons that he spent on the Plains, he played in 12 games. Interestingly enough, Dampeer is actually well-known for an altercation that occurred in 2015.

The incident happened at a bar when he and former Auburn wide receiver D’haquille Williams got into a little skirmish that resulted in Dampeer having a broken jaw. That explains why the junior college product was able to play at Auburn for three years.

Now, Dampeer will get a new opportunity to play in the newly-established football league. After falling just short in Saturday’s matchup with the New Jersey Generals, the Maulers fell to 0-4. There is certainly room for improvement and Dampeer could likely provide help along the offensive front.
