Clemson’s offense continues to be team’s biggest concern

It’s safe to say that Clemson’s offense last season didn’t live up to preseason expectations, as it finished ninth in the ACC in points per game and 13th in yards per game. Although the Tigers’ personnel should be healthier than last season’s injury-plagued roster, there are still many question marks surrounding the offense.

Here’s what Brad Crawford had to say about Clemson’s biggest concern via 247Sports.

All eyes are on new offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter and passing game coordinator Kyle Richardson coming out of spring given uncertainty at quarterback, offensive line and wide receiver after a disappointing campaign offensively. Quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei reshaped his body after a lackluster sophomore season (nine touchdown passes, 10 interceptions) and worked on getting the ball out quicker during the spring. The issue is struggles with consistency for the former elite prospect and potential worry up front for a group that Dabo Swinney still must figure out his rotation. And can Joseph Ngata be a true No. 1 at wideout? It’s a legitimate question for a wide receiver unit lacking a big-play threat.

As Crawford mentioned, the transition from Tony Elliott to Brandon Streeter as offensive coordinator is one of the biggest storylines to follow as the fall approaches. Streeter served as the team’s passing game coordinator last season, while Richardson served as an offensive assistant. The Tigers have a light three-game stretch to start the season with matchups against Georgia Tech, Furman and Lousiana Tech, so if Streeter and Richardson can’t produce a top-tier offense in the first three weeks, the troubles will likely exacerbate as Clemson heads deeper into the fall.
