2022 Steelers training camp: Running backs

Last year, the Pittsburgh Steelers invested a first-round pick in running back Najee Harris to be the workhorse of the Steelers rushing attack. Last season he proved to be willing and able to carry the load with mixed results. Let’s take a look at arguably the weakest depth chart on the offense heading into training camp.

Najee Harris

Harris finished 2021 with 1,200 rushing yards but every inch was hard earned. Harris is a powerful runner but needs to work on his explosion and quickness to help minimize the beating he takes at the line of scrimmage.

Benny Snell

Snell is the default backup running back on the roster based on experience but offers very little in terms of athleticism or production.

Anthony McFarland Jr.

McFarland played for offensive coordinator Matt Canada at Maryland but seems to have no place in this offense.

The team’s starting fullback by default, Watt has essentially no role on offense and serves exclusively as a leader on special teams.

Trey Edmunds

Edmunds has been on and off the active roster and is a big bruising back who serves as the team’s backup fullback.

Jaylen Warren

Rookie out of Oklahoma State who is hoping to make the roster based on college production and some flashes in college.

Signed as a UDFA out of Duke, Durant has the chance to make the roster with a diverse skill set and decent speed.
