7 Hawkeyes nab Phil Steele preseason honors

As the preseason awards season rolls on, seven Iowa Hawkeyes were tabbed as either All-American or All-Big Ten selections by Phil Steele. Four defensive players, two offensive players and a specialist comprise the selections by Phil Steele.

Let’s take a look at the full list of honorees that Iowa football’s official account released today.

Senior LB, Jack Campbell – first-team All-American, first-team All-Big Ten

After leading the nation in tackles with 143 in 2021, senior linebacker Jack Campbell earned the nod as both a preseason first-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten member by Phil Steele.

It continues a parade of offseason accolades for the Cedar Falls, Iowa, native. The 6-foot-5, 243 pound linebacker was recently listed as the No. 2 inside linebacker on Mel Kiper of ESPN’s 2023 NFL draft big board. Athlon Sports also projected Campbell as a first-team All-Big Ten selection several weeks ago.

Campbell was recognized as a first-team All-Big Ten selection by both the Big Ten media and Phil Steele last season. He was also one of 16 semifinalists for the Butkus Award.

Redshirt senior CB, Riley Moss – first-team All-American, first-team All Big Ten

Riley Moss was honored as a first-team All-American by Sporting News and a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America and Phil Steele after his efforts in 2021.

The 6-foot-1, 194 pound cornerback out of Centennial High School in Ankeny, Iowa, won the Tatum-Woodson Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year award after a 2021 season that saw him register four interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns against Indiana in the Hawkeyes’ season-opening 34-6 win.
