Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Brian Kelly this season.

We continue our look at this team’s offensive linemen with a player who has seen limited action in his first two seasons with the team but could be asked to provide some major depth up front this fall. Xavier Hill, a Mississippi native, looks to be one of the beneficiaries of the Tigers’ offensive line turnover this offseason.

Depth Chart Overview

Hill was a three-star recruit and just barely a top-500 recruit coming out of Olive Branch High School in Mississippi. He appeared in just one game during his first campaign in a pandemic-shortened 2020 season and took a redshirt year.

During his second season with the team in 2021, he saw more action. He appeared in the team’s first three games, starting two of them at left tackle before an injury sidelined him for much of the season.

He returns to the field in 2022 and is likely to slide back to his more natural guard position. If he’s going to win a starting job there, he’ll have to contend with a pair of talented transfers in Tre’Mond Shorts and Miles Frazier, as well as returning redshirt freshman Garrett Dellinger.
