Analyst says it’s less than 50% ACC and Pac-12 merge together

ACC Football announces new schedule matrix for 2023 season

Things have been quiet on the realignment front for college sports after USC and UCLA bolted the Pac-12 and officially joined the Big Ten earlier this Summer. While there is some chatter still, and more will be coming, no other teams have made the jump to the SEC or Big Ten just yet.

And questions are starting to be raised about the future of the Pac-12 and ACC.

As of right now, the conferences are what they are and could be bracing for teams making decisions soon enough. But with the two not wanting to be left out, could they merge together?

Pac-12 analyst Jon Wilner is one of the more respected reporters that covers the conference on a day-to-day basis and he recently put out a tweet that included what he thought the chances were the two conferences merge at some point. Wilner stated it’s at 40% right now, which seems higher than it should be.

Now, this is just Wilner’s take on things but like I say above, he’s pretty plugged in with things.

If both conferences want to survive, they are either going to have to add teams, merge together or do both. It seems like the last remaining option especially if the SEC and Big Ten are done adding and the Big 12 doesn’t want to change.

Merging the Pac-12 and ACC could make some sense, although they are on opposite coasts. But the money and television deals are a big factor in this whole thing. As ACC commissioner Jim Phillips continues to navigate the waters, things should start to become clearer in the coming weeks.
