Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs is hitting his stride at 29, preparing for his ninth season in the NFL. Since joining the Seahawks via a trade with the Detroit Lions in 2019, he’s caught 20 interceptions in 38 games for Seattle. Despite back-to-back Pro Bowl nods, Diggs wants much more – of himself, and for the team heading into 2022.
In January, Diggs went down with a broken right fibula and dislocated ankle in Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals. The injury ended Diggs season just minutes before the end of regulation. In March, Seattle re-signed Diggs to a three-year deal, showing great faith in their star safety who is reeling off consecutive five-interception seasons. During Day 2 of training camp, Diggs took some time at the podium to give an update on himself and what he saw on the field.
With the preseason around the corner, Diggs’ recovery has been a hot topic.
“I am just right,” he said. “I am just where God wants me to be and for me it is important for me to get out here and be out here with my teammates as much as I can, so for me I am just taking it one day at a time and for me just being blessed and living in the moment for the most part. I got a beautiful family and getting a beautiful opportunity to come out here and be around the guys and be back with my coaches, so it’s really dope.”
Even with a new contract, Diggs still maintains the hunger and humility that have attributed to his success.
“You can always feel settled, but you can never get comfortable,” he said. “So for me I’m happy to be here for another three years and at the end of the day you know I still got work to do and still got stuff to prove, so for me you can never just think you are settled in somewhere and think everything is fine and dandy because it’s a business at the end of the day.”
