Camp snapshot: Day 10


JACKSONVILLE – Two weeks in, Trevor Lawrence likes what he sees.

He likes the progress the Jaguars’ offense has made through two weeks of 2022 Training Camp, and the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft likes how he feels physically.

He likes the second part a lot.

“I feel like my arm got a lot stronger this offseason,” Lawrence said Monday after a near two-and-a-half-hour practice on Day 10 of ’22 camp at Episcopal School of Jacksonville Knight Sports Campus.

Lawrence – the Jaguars’ starting quarterback – didn’t play in a preseason-opening loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, Thursday. Offensive coordinator Press Taylor on Monday said coaches don’t yet know if Lawrence will play in Friday’s preseason home opener against the Cleveland Browns at TIAA Bank Field.

“We’ll see,” Taylor said Monday. “That’s still stuff we’re getting into. There’s a chance. We’ll continue to have those conversations.”

Said Lawrence, “Of course you want to play, but you also realize it’s a long season. It’s a marathon. Whenever the time comes, I’ll be ready to roll.”

Lawrence, who has looked confident, poised and accurate through most of his second NFL training camp, said he likes the work he and the offense have done in 10 training camp practices. The Jaguars had their most physical practice of camp to date on Sunday.

Monday’s practice was the longest of camp to date.

“There’s no doubt you get great work in during the week,” Lawrence said. “That’s why we practice, especially the way our defense is. They do a lot of different things. It’s great as a quarterback going against that every day. It makes you think. It makes you really communicate with each other on offense. That’s been great all of camp.”

Lawrence, who threw 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions as a rookie last season, said he feels better entering ’22 camp because he was able to prepare better. He underwent surgery on his non-throwing surgery last offseason before the Jaguars selected…
