‘Jahan Dotson is the best WR right now’

“Jahan Dotson is the best WR on the team right now.”

Former NFL tight end Logan Paulsen has been in attendance at Washington Commanders’ practices and discussed his evaluations, and on Friday as a guest on the “Al Galdi Podcast.”

Paulsen calmly asserted that the rookie receiver Dotson, drafted 16th overall, is performing at a higher level (at least for now) than Washington’s best all-around receiver for the last three seasons (2019-21) Terry McLaurin.

Galdi, of course, could not simply let that analysis go without asking for Paulsen’s elaboration. “Logan, you said something that I’m sure caught a lot of people’s attention. ‘Jahan Dotson is the best receiver on the team.’ That certainly stands out. Why do you feel that way?”

“Also this is about his relationship with Carson Wentz. On OTAs they were best of friends you could tell, and that has continued. Carson looks for him, he trusts him, he tries to get him the football and I think that is one reason why he (Dotson) has been so productive.”

Galdi countered, “So Jahan Dotson has had a better training camp than Terry McLaurin has had. Is Dotson legitimately” (suddenly Paulsen interrupted Galidi. “I don’t want people to misquote me. He has been more productive than Terry in camp. I think that that is something to consider. It is important. It is a metric.”

“One of the reasons you are evaluating guys in training camp is how many plays do they make? And he has made a lot of plays. I think that is valuable. And if we are just looking at plays instead of salary or name, Jahan would be the better one because of usage and what is going on at training camp.”

Galdi again countered, “Looking ahead to the 2022 season, do you think it possible we will end up saying, Jahan Dotson, not Terry McLaurin was the best receiver on the Commanders…
