Aggies offer transfer linebacker Omar Speights

As a majority of you already know, the Aggies have lost nearly 30 players to the transfer portal after its opening on Dec. 5th, 2022, yet some in the media fail to admit that a majority of the players to enter the portal were either backups or previously suspended players looking for a new start.

From a position standpoint, the linebacker spot lost three players, including starting middle linebacker Andre White Jr., now with Georgia Tech, and talented freshman Ish Smith, who departed for Houston. Even though the program signed two linebacker prospects in the 2023 cycle (3-Star Taurean York, and 3-Star Chantz Johnson) Edgerren Cooper and Chris Russel are the last men standing at both spots, with zero depth behind them.

Thankfully for the Aggies, the transfer portal has seen over 1,000 players leave their previous destinations, including dozens of starting linebacker talent, and on Thursday, highly productive Oregon State linebacker Omar Speights surprisingly entered his name as a grad transfer. in four seasons with the Beavers, Speights recorded 304 tackles, over 25 tackles for loss, and 3 interceptions while being named All-Pac-12 First Team this season.

On Friday it was revealed that Head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies have officially offered Speights, who would undoubtedly be a fantastic fit in the middle of an already talented defense with just a few missing pieces left to become one of the more feared units for 2023.

So far, transfer portal additions outside of defensive backs Tony Grimes and Sam McCall have been scarce for the maroon and white, but there is still plenty of time for moves to be made, and focus to be…
