Packers finalize 2023 coaching staff

The Green Bay Packers have promoted Rich Bisaccia to assistant head coach/special teams coordinator, hired Greg Williams as passing game coordinator (defense), promoted Ryan Downard to defensive backs coach, promoted Jason Rebrovich to pass rush specialist and hired Tim Lester as senior analyst, Rob Grosso as an offensive quality control coach and Kyle Wilber as special teams quality control coach. Head Coach Matt LaFleur made the announcements on Friday.

Bisaccia (bis-SOTCH-ee-uh) joined the Packers in 2022 as the special teams coordinator, helping Keisean Nixon earn first-team All-Pro honors from The Associated Press. Nixon was the first Packer kick returner to earn a spot on the AP All-Pro team since it added the position in 1976. Nixon (1,009) was the third player in team history to lead the NFL in kickoff return yards (Al Carmichael in 1956 and 1957, Dave Hampton in 1971). Bisaccia has 40 years of coaching experience, including 21 seasons in the NFL as a special teams coordinator, and this will be the 12th season that he has held the title of associate head coach or assistant head coach in the NFL. Prior to entering the NFL coaching ranks in 2002, Bisaccia spent 19 seasons coaching at the collegiate level with stops at the Mississippi (1999-2001), Clemson (1994-98), South Carolina (1988-93) and Wayne State College (1983-87). A native of Yonkers, N.Y., Bisaccia attended Yankton College in South Dakota from 1979-1982 and was a four-year starter at defensive back.

Williams brings 19 years of coaching experience to the Packers, including 14 seasons in the NFL. He spent the past four seasons as the cornerbacks coach for the Arizona Cardinals. In 2022, Williams guided a cornerback group that helped Arizona rank No. 2 in the league in yards allowed per completion (10.10), the top single-season mark by the Cardinals since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Prior to his time in Arizona, Williams was the defensive backs coach for the Denver Broncos (2018) and Indianapolis Colts (2016-17). His first NFL coaching experience was working seven seasons with the San Diego Chargers, first as assistant linebackers coach (2009-12) and then as assistant secondary coach (2013-15). The former wide receiver and defensive back at the University of North Carolina (1994-97) spent time in training camp with the Chicago Bears and New York Giants while also playing two seasons (1999-2000) with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe, one year with the San Francisco Demons of the XFL (2001)…
