Brock Vandagriff’s future at Georgia is up in the air

Brock Vandagriff’s future at Georgia is up in the air

A few years ago, having several quality quarterbacks on the depth chart was considered a good thing. It gave head coaches peace of mind knowing that there was another option or two in the event that a change needed to be made.

In the present day, due to the transfer portal, it has become a stressful scenario.

That is the case for the Georgia Bulldogs as they prepare for life without Stetson Bennett, who led the Bulldogs to two national championships during his time as Georgia’s starting quarterback. The candidates are former five-star quarterbacks Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton, as well as former four-star quarterback Carson Beck.

Beck was used as the team’s backup quarterback last season and stood out as the top quarterback in last week’s G-Day game, where completed 15-of-22 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown. Both Stockton and Vandagriff had decent days as well, as they both threw for over 100 yards last Saturday.

However, with the transfer portal window closing in just over a week, all quarterbacks have some thinking to do regarding their futures in Athens.

Vandagriff was asked following Saturday’s spring game what his plans were for the following season. He answered with a sense of uncertainty.

“I’m not sure. I guess there’s some praying to do,” Vandagriff said after Saturday’s scrimmage. “But my plans, for now, are to just take it day by day.”

Georgia’s quarterback race could have implications for Auburn, as the position is one of several that Hugh Freeze is pursuing as the second transfer portal window opens. If Vandagriff were to enter, he could possibly be the best option at quarterback.

During his recruitment, Auburn extended an offer to Vandagriff on May 9, 2018. At the time, Auburn was his second offer according to 247Sports. He would visit the Plains twice before committing to Oklahoma on June 19, 2020. He would later de-commit from the Sooners in favor to stay at home and play for Georgia.
