Michigan State lands Cincinnati transfer safety Armorion Smith

After missing out on the commitment of Detroit native Armorion Smith back in 2021, Michigan State football is finally getting the former River Rouge safety on the roster, as Smith announced that he is transferring to the Spartans on Twitter on Friday night.

Smith was a former 3-star recruit, who has spent the last two seasons, one as a redshirt, with the University of Cincinnati. Of course, former Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell left this offseason and is now the head coach at Wisconsin, and Smith is now following his former coach to the Big Ten.

Smith was mostly a special teams player, as well as a backup safety, for the Bearcats last season. He recorded 20 tackles and one interception for Cincinnati.

This is a nice pickup by the Spartans, who needed some depth and experience behind projected starting safeties Malik Spencer and Jaden Mangham.
