Titans’ Brewer explains difference between coaches Carter, Houghtaling

After the Tennessee Titans parted ways with former offensive line coach Keith Carter in favor of Jason Houghtaling, former left tackle Taylor Lewan detailed what it was like playing under Carter.

Lewan didn’t exactly paint a pretty picture of what it was like with Carter at the helm, with the veteran noting how Carter wasn’t exactly player-friendly during his stint in Nashville.

“When Keith first got there, the way he came in and the way he was trying to act towards everybody, like very disrespectful… very authoritative, but in a very like dictatorship-type of way,” Lewan said.

“I just wish he focused a little bit more on taking care of the older players,” he added. “I think Ben [Jones] got a little bit more of that towards the end, and then I kind of did this year. But those practices are hard, and they wear on your body and they wear your tires out really fast and you could see it towards the end of the season sometimes,” Lewan said.

During a presser on Wednesday, Titans offensive lineman Aaron Brewer  basically echoed Lewan’s comments about Carter’s approach, while also noting how Houghtaling is more of a player’s coach.

The more we learn about Carter’s time in Nashville, the more clear it becomes why he was let go. Of course, it also didn’t help that the line was more often lackluster than not.

It’ll be interesting to see if he changes his approach in his role as the New York Jets’ offensive line coach.
