Bears rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson missed Monday night’s game against the Vikings with a foot injury.
Stevenson was a surprise addition to the injury report last week, where head coach Matt Eberflus explained Stevenson injured his foot during a 7-on-7 period in Saturday’s practice. Eberflus didn’t sound too concerned about the injury.
“We’re hopeful and feel pretty good where he is,”Eberflus told reporters Tuesday.
When asked whether he expects Stevenson to return this season, Eberflus said, “Yeah, I hope so.”
Chicago is headed into a much-deserved bye week following Monday night’s late comeback win over Minnesota. While the severity of Stevenson’s injury is unknown — along with whether he’ll play again this season — it’s an additional week of rest before the Bears’ final slate of five games.
With Stevenson out, fellow rookie Terell Smith got the starting nod opposite Jaylon Johnson against the Vikings. Smith, who turned up the heat on Stevenson this summer, had a solid outing after missing several games with an illness.
If Stevenson misses any additional games, it’ll be Smith getting some well-deserved reps in his place.
