Top 10 Michigan football offensive recruits since 2001

Michigan football has brought in a ton of high-profile recruits over the years, but oddly, not nearly as many on the offensive side of the ball as that on defense — which has been rife with five-stars over the course of decades.

In fact, the Wolverines haven’t even had 10 five-stars on the offensive side of the ball in the past 23 years, dating back to 2001 when modern recruiting services started taking the world by storm. By contrast, though Michigan has had eight five-stars on offense in the past 23 years, rival Ohio State had six on its roster just this past season.

To boot, the Wolverines haven’t had a ton of luck even when they’ve brought in top names in recruiting on the offensive side of the ball. Here are the top 10 offensive recruits that the maize and blue have had since 2001.

WR Tim Massaquoi

High School: Allentown (Pa.) Parkland
Class: 2001
Rating: Four-star
Ranking: No. 47 overall

Known more in Ann Arbor as a tight end, Massaquoi was listed as a wide receiver as a recruit. He was a solid option from 2002-2005 and became one of the leaders on the team, having earned multiple All-Big Ten selections.

RB Carlos Brown

Class: 2006
Rating: Four-star
Ranking: No. 34 overall

Came aboard behind Mike Hart and got some limited playing time in his first year, but started three games in year two with Hart being oft-injured. He, himself, was often injured in his junior year and never quite lived up to the recruiting hype. He did go to the NFL as an undrafted free agent.
