When does training camp open?

Penn State’s start to the 2022 season will come slightly earlier than it traditionally does this fall. The Nittany Lions begin the 2022 season on the road for a Thursday night game at Purdue on Sept. 1. But when does Penn State officially open training camp to begin preparing for the new season?

Penn State has confirmed it will open training camp on Monday, August 1. Early August is a pretty standard start time for training camps in college football as schools like to operate a two or three-week camp before the start of the fall semester on campus. Classes begin at Penn State on August 22, giving Penn State up to three weeks of training camp prep before the start of the season.

Penn State scheduled a football media day for Saturday, August 6. This is traditionally where head coach James Franklin will get to address the media in a press conference setting and other coaches and players will be made available to the media as well.

Penn State will also have a photo day later in the month, on August 20.
