Arkansas State went three and out on its first possession but pinned the Buckeyes deep in Ohio State territory after a 68-yard punt to the OSU 4.

TreVeyon Henderson quickly gave the Ohio State offense room to work after runs of 3 and 41 yards to move the Buckeyes to their 48.

After another first down, the Buckeyes put the first points on the board after C.J. Stroud found Marvin Harrison Jr. over the middle for a 42-yard score and the 7-0 lead. The drive covered 96 yards, 50 through the air and 46 on the ground, on eight plays while taking 3:30 off the clock.

The Buckeyes took possession on their 25 after a touchback and in short order put another seven points on the board, this time on an 8-yard Henderson scoring run. The Buckeyes were pushed back 5 yards by an illegal formation penalty to the ASU 13. Williams carried the next snap to the ASU 6.

The quarter ended with the Buckeyes facing a fourth down situation on the ASU 6 with a 14-3 lead.
