Academic Services Announces September Student-Athletes of the Month


PULLMAN, Wash. (October 18, 2022) – Washington State football’s Ma’ake Fifita and volleyball’s Logann Golden were named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for September 2022.

Fifita excelled in the classroom throughout the summer and in beginning of the fall semester, posting 3.45 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in mathematics. On the football field, the Everett, Wash. native was named to the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List, has started all seven games on the offensive line including the first six at right tackle before starting at right guard at Oregon State. Fifita is a two-time Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll selection and appeared in all 13 games last season including the final four as a starter.

Golden owns a 3.51 GPA while majoring in sport management and has excelled into the community as well, volunteering at WSU’s Butch’s Bash and working with the Coug Pals program. Golden also earned Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll accolades last season. On the court, the junior form Castle Rock, Wash. came up big for the Cougars with a pair of aces in the win over No. 12 Oregon earlier this season. Golden appeared in 17 matches the past two seasons and had 11 digs and three aces against UNLV in 2021 and a 10-dig match as a freshman against Arizona.

Each month Washington State Academic Services honors a male and female student-athlete that demonstrates commitment to academics while participating in their sport.
