That is just a tease of the treasures that honor the ’70s Steelers.
The success of the group all began with Super Bowl IX, when the Steelers defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 16-6, to win their first Lombardi Trophy. They followed that with a victory in Super Bowl X, defeating the Dallas Cowboys, 21-17, for back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
The team returned to the big stage in Super Bowl XIII, defeating the Dallas Cowboys, 35-31, for their third title. And they became the first team in NFL history to win four Super Bowl championships, and their second back-to-back title, when they defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 31-19, in Super Bowl XIV.
Late Steelers chairman Dan Rooney Sr. said it best when talking about the Steelers of the ’70s.
“There are times, though seldom, when everything comes together,” said Rooney. “When a group of young men become a special team. Where their accomplishments give them a time in history. Not only winning, but being the best, and doing so with unselfish determination to be the best team. Making the goal together. That happened in Pittsburgh. It was a glorious time.”
